  • You’ll attend related classroom instruction at the Academy. These classes are paid for by the participating contractor.
  • You’ll “Earn While You Learn” without student loan debt.
  • Apprenticeship is designed to allow adults the opportunity to work and earn a living to provide for themselves and their families while they gain the knowledge and skills needed to be competitive in the workforce.

How long is TCAA’s
Apprenticeship Program?

  • Registered Apprenticeship is a 4-year commitment and it is often called : “The Other 4-Year Degree” for that reason.
  • The Apprentice is required to complete 144 hours of related classroom instruction along with 2,000 on-the-job training hours per school year.
  • Hard work, dedication and determination are needed to be successful as an Apprentice because it is four years of classroom related instruction 5 to 6 nights a month.

TCAA offers Registered Apprenticeship in four trades:

What is the Payoff?

Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy is Southwest Florida’s Largest Registered Apprenticeship Program. TCAA is accredited by the Florida Department of Education and the National Center for Construction Education and Research.

“When I got out of the military I missed the camaraderie and, believe it or not, the trades and the military have a lot in common when it comes to that.  When you embrace “the stuck together” mentality, a special bond is formed that cannot be broken.” – Tyler Wimberly, Pipe Fitting Foreman

“I have always wanted to own my own electrical company, since I first started working.  The teachers and administrators at TCAA have created a rigorous course to engage the minds of Southwest Florida’s  next generation of tradesmen and are encouraging the whole way.”  – Johansen Casasus, Electrician

Apprenticeship training is a good fit for individuals looking to pursue:
  • A career after high school: High school graduates that pursued construction academies in high school and completed the programs with certifications have the ability to use these certifications for advanced standings in the apprenticeship program.
  • A career change: A career path awaits with on-the-job training and related classroom instruction.
  • A career after the military : Veterans can take advantage of their G.I. Bill education benefits.
Requirements to becoming an apprentice:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be working for a participating contractor
  • Must complete 144 hours per school year of classroom related instruction
  • Must complete 2,000 hours per school year of on-the-job training
  • Must be physically capable of performing the work required by the trade
“My son can’t wait to get out of high school so he can get into the program.  This separates you from the next man that walks through that door looking for the same job.” – William Stewart, Electrician
“Several graduates have become very important key folks at B&I Contractors within the construction world, including myself as a manager. With the help of TCAA and all their tools and staff, the skies the limit!” – Vinny Cicchesi, Plumbing

We are here to help!

YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR PRIORITY!

The Academy

TCAA provides structured training that is trade specific.

Graduates complete 2,000 hours of on-the-job training plus 144 hours of classroom related instruction per school year.

Our facility is about 20,000 square feet, with training labs, classrooms, and a computer center for testing.

We follow all the required standards for Registered Apprenticeship. Our culture is helpful and encouraging.

“ TCAA is a place where you gather information and theory to be used in the field. On-the-job training is very important and then TCAA helps you with the mental tools you need to put the theory and the field together.” – Brandon Hurtado, Electrical Apprentice

Our Instructors

All of our Instructors are members of industry and are certified as Craft Instructors with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

Our Instructors enjoy training and giving back to their industries as well as providing Apprentices with the knowledge they need to create a successful career in their trades.

I graduated from TCAA and had a lot of help.  That help is what allowed me to succeed and I wanted to be a part of the teaching process to give back”  – Daniel Rodriguez, Plumbing Instructor, Class of 2006
